Texas man has prayer in his heart, machete in his hand

A Texas = man did just that on Christmas Eve, according to Forth Worth = police.

At about 1 p.m. on Dec. 24, Paul Ray Smith entered Forth = Worth's Meadowbrook First Baptist Church with a little more than a = prayer in his heart, according to police spokesman Dean = Sullivan.

"The suspect entered the church, removed a large machete = from his shirt and laid it on the altar," according to the police = report. "He then said a prayer."

When officers arrived, they searched Smith and found = several other weapons in his possession, including a stiletto knife, a = zip gun, and "a sword of sorts, 16 inches long with a 1-inch blade," = Sullivan said.

Smith was charged with unlawful carrying of a = weapon. He is currently being held on $750 bond while awaiting a = court-ordered psychiatric exam, according to Terry Grisham of the = Tarrant County Sheriff's Department.
