Battle at Home over Iraq War Funding Bill

Much like in Iraq, a war is raging in Washington, D. C. This political standoff along party lines also strangely resembles the sectarian separation within the Iraqi government.

A Republican White House continues to be at odds with the Democrat-controlled Congress. At the center of the controversy this week, was a timetable for withdrawing U. S. troops from Iraq, the sticking point that kept the president from signing the bill.

On Wednesday, Congress made a push to override the presidential veto, but came up too short for the measure to pass.

Democrats say they will continue to find a way to end the four-year conflict that has killed 3,300 Americans and countless Iraqis.
